Joetsu City History Museum!

As you might already know, Takada park is well known for the cherry blossom festival.

More than 1 million people visit the park every year.

Takada Castle is one of the “Zoku Nihon 100 Meijo” (Japan’s next top 100 castles)

The best season to visit Takada park is spring without a question, but even though spring is over, you can still enjoy walking and exploring there.

Today, I’m going to introduce  Joetsu City History Museum located in Takada park.

Newly renovated history museum located in Takada Park

On the second floor, With the theme of “the city of Echigo,” a permanent exhibition  room has been established to explain the history of the area since the Azuchi Momoyama period.

You can learn about the history and background of the three castles of Kasugayama Castle, Fukushima Castle and Takada Castle, and the development of the area after that.  There are  English descriptions along with pictures and diorama.

(“Echigo” was an old province in north-central Japan, on the shores of the Sea of Japan. It corresponds today to  Niigata Prefecture, minus the island of Sado.)

You can use the rooftop observation deck for free to enjoy the spectacular views such as Mt.Yoneyama and  Mt.Myoko.  Also, the first floor lounge facing the inner moat and Honmaru earthwork can be used as a rest spot.

The cafe “Omoya” and the museum souvenir shop are newly renovated, which can be used as a starting point and a rest spot for exploring around Takada Park (Takada Castle ruins).

高田公園(たかだこうえん) は桜(さくら) で有名(ゆうめい) です。

高田公園へ行くいちばん  いい季節(きせつ) は春(はる)ですが、春が終わっても散歩(さんぽ) を楽(たの)しむことができます。

今日は、高田公園にある上越市歴史博物館(じょうえつしりつれきしはくぶつかん)を紹介(しょうかい) します。

2階には、「越後(えちご)」をテーマに、安土桃山(あづちももやま) 時代(じだい) よりあとの歴史(れきし) を説明(せつめい)する展示室(てんじしつ) があります。

春日山城(かすがやまじょう)、福島城(ふくしまじょう)、高田城(たかだじょう)の　みっつのお城(しろ) の 歴史や、そのあとの 地域(ちいき)の様子(ようす)について 学(まな)ぶことが できます。写真(しゃしん) やジオラマと一緒(いっしょ)に英語の説明(せつめい)  もあります。

屋上(おくじょう) にある展望台(てんぼうだい) から、米山(よねやま) や 妙高山(みょうこうさん) などの景色(けしき)を楽しめます。とてもきれいです。無料(むりょう)なので ぜひ行ってみてください。

一階のカフェ「おもや」とギフトショップは高田公園を散歩(さんぽ) する時のスタート地点や休憩所(きゅうけい)の場所(ばしょ)としておすすめです。
